We highly recommend using the Installation wizard we provide in your Tech Lockdown account dashboard. It will walk you through the installation process.

By setting up Cloudflare on your router, you can ensure that all devices on your home network have filtering enabled, even without installing an app.

In order to take advantage of this kind of filtering, you will need to

1. Enter your router’s IP address in the dashboard.
2. Change your router’s DNS servers to Cloudflare’s servers.
   

1) Create a Network in the Dashboard

The first step is to fill out your IP address in the dashboard. View your Network Settings to see networks you currently have available.

If you don't have any linked networks, click "Add a Location". You will be prompted to enter a name for the Network, and an IP address (you can click on "Fill Current IPv4 address" to automatically enter your current IP address):

Once you've created a location, you can then go to the install page, and click the Router device.

You will be prompted to choose a Network you've added:

2) Login to Your Router

Next, you’ll need to log into your router. Each router model might have slightly different instructions, but you should be able to find login details on the back label:

Next, you’ll need to navigate to your router’s login page. Each router model is different, but here are examples of some common brands:

1. LinkSys: Go to http://192.168.1.1/ in your browser.
2. Netgear: Go to either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 in your browser.  
   
3. D-Link: Go to http://192.168.0.1/ in your browser.  
   

3) Find DNS settings, and point them to Cloudflare

Once you’ve logged into your router, you’ll need to find your DNS settings. The exact menu layout for each router might be different, so it might be helpful to search your router model online for instructions. You can often find the router model number and brand on the back label (same place you found instructions to log in).

As an example, we used a Netgear router. You’ll need to find the section for DNS server addresses. Change these from the default/automatic setting. Depending on whether your router uses IPv4 or IPv6 addresses, you’ll have to enter different addresses.

The servers you can change to are:

IPv4 Primary: 1.1.1.1

IPv4 Secondary: 1.0.0.1

If your Router uses an IPv6 address, then a unique address will be provided to from Cloudflare.
