Connect Android Device to Content Policy
Connect an Android device directly to your Content Policy.
We recommend using the Installation wizard we provide in your Tech Lockdown account dashboard. It will walk you through the installation process.
You can use this tutorial for additional reference.
App
If you’re using an Android device, you can download the Cloudflare One App from the Google PlayStore , or scan the QR code below:
When you created your Cloudflare account, you created a Team name. When prompted, enter this in the app.
Next, you’ll need to choose the Member that you want to be signed in the device as. If you’ve already set up your Tech Lockdown account, this should be your email.
You should receive a pin by email from Cloudflare. Enter this pin into the App sign-in page.
That’s it! You’re all set!
Prevent Bypass
After you've connected your Android smartphone to your DNS Content Policy, the next step is to ensure that you can't bypass restrictions.
There are a few ways you can do this on Android:
- The easiest way is to use an AppLocker App to prevent the Cloudflare One App from being uninstalled. You can also use it to limit access to Settings.
- The most effective way is to enable managed mode on your Android device. Device management unlocks features normally unavailable to standard devices and allows you to force apps to be installed. You can also completely hide the Settings app.
We have a full guide that goes into more detail about how to prevent bypass on Android smartphones.

Preventing Bypass on Android
After you’ve connected an Android device to your content policy, the next step is to enforce that connection.
Manual Config
You can customize the network settings on your Android device to point to your Content Policy. You can use this approach instead of connecting via the app or you can use it in combination with the app. We recommend connecting with both approaches so that if the app fails to connect, it will fall through to the device’s network settings.
Associate an IP address
It's important not to skip this step. Even if you don't plan to connect your home's Wi-Fi to your DNS Content Policy, you must associate an IPv4 address to get the unique connection information for your account.
If you've not connected a router to your Content Policy yet, you will need to create a network first.

Get Connection Information
Your account will have unique addresses that can be used to point the network settings on your device directly to your content policy.
You can find this information under Content Policy > Connect Devices > Config.

Connect a Device Manually to your Content Policy
If you are unable to install the app onto a device, then it might be possible to connect your device manually.
Open Network Settings on your smartphone
To change DNS/Network settings on your device:
- Open the Settings app.
- Select Network & Internet or Connections.
- Scroll down and select Private DNS.
This will point your Android device to your Content Policy similar to how you would a router. However, one big limitation with this approach is that your device will usually have to be connected to your home network in order for your custom settings to apply.
Why doesn't this work on other Wi-Fi networks when I use IPv4?
Set Private DNS on your smartphone
Depending on which version of the Android operating system your smartphone uses, you might have to enter different addresses.
How do I find my Android version?
- For Android 9 to 10, you must use the DNS over TLS address, if listed.
- For Android 11 or later, you have the additional option to use the DNS over HTTPS address, if listed.
- For Android 8 or earlier, you will have to use the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses, if listed.
Why am I missing options on the Config screen?
